Embrace the Timeline: Setting the Foundation for a Flawless Renovation

Renovating your home isn’t something that happens overnight—it’s an investment in time, creativity, and precision. While it may feel daunting to learn that your project’s start date is weeks or even months away, there’s a method to this timeline.

By embracing the planning phase and connecting with an interior designer (hopefully us) well in advance, you set the stage for a smoother, more enjoyable renovation experience. The result? Quality workmanship, a thoughtful design, and fewer unexpected challenges along the way.

The Planning Phase: Setting a Solid Foundation

The first step in any successful renovation is careful planning. This initial period involves transforming raw ideas, dreams, and wish lists into a cohesive plan. At Thornton Design, this stage is called Design Development, and it typically takes 6-8 weeks, depending on the project’s complexity.

You may ask: “Why does it take this long?”

During Design Development, our team is focused solely on crafting a clear, enticing vision for your space—free from the distractions of site visits, trade supervision, or other ongoing jobs.

By dedicating this uninterrupted time to your project, we can refine the design concept, solve potential challenges before they arise, and identify creative opportunities that elevate both functionality and beauty. In other words, the deliberate pace of planning leads to a superior design experience.

The Design Presentation: Bringing Your Vision to Life

Once the design concept has been fine-tuned, we move to the Design Presentation stage. Here, we unveil our proposed vision, specific recommendations, and projected pricing. You’ll see how we’ve taken your initial ideas and shaped them into a cohesive plan that balances style, comfort, and practicality.

Implementation: Turning Plans into Reality

After the presentation, once all is approved, we proceed to the Implementation phase. We hit the ground running—purchasing materials, scheduling trades, and managing all the moving parts to ensure the project stays on track.

It’s during this stage that the careful groundwork from the planning phases truly pays off. By anticipating potential issues early, we minimize setbacks, maintain momentum, and deliver on our promise to bring your vision to life on time and on budget.

Always Quality Over Speed

It’s natural to feel excited and want immediate results when planning a renovation. However, great design and craftsmanship require thoughtfulness and care.

Reaching out sooner rather than later is about more than just securing a start date—it’s about making sure your entire experience is as positive and rewarding as possible. A well-planned, methodical approach means fewer rushed decisions, fewer mistakes, and a final space that not only meets your functional needs but exceeds your aesthetic expectations.

In short, taking the time upfront to develop a comprehensive design plan, review the proposals, and thoughtfully select materials sets your project on the path to success. When you embrace the timeline and trust the process, you’ll find that the end result is worth the wait: a stunning, functional, and enduring space that you’ll love for years to come.
